Origin of the Name McMorrow

It was McMurrough who sought help from Henry II and thus was the instigator of the Anglo-Norman invasion. His desendant Art McMurrough, 1357-1417, also King of Leinster , did much to remove the opprobrium, consequently glorifying the name by his continuous and successful resistance to English invaders. Art McMurrough was styled Kavanagh. This important Sept became divided into several sub-septs. The McMurroughs, the Kavanaghs and the Kinsellas descend from Murchadha, translated as 'Murrough', grandfather of King Dermot McMurrough. The latter, except in the case of the Chief of the name, who is now styled O'Morchoe, all became Murphy and Davis respectively. The original surname is now rare, McMurrough or McMorrow being seldom found today outside County Dublin .
