A Robert Lowe and Mary Cromwell were married in Saint George, Hanover Square, in the year 1779. In Ireland the name is often rendered as Gromwell and has been found in records two centuries before Oliver Cromwell left his permanent mark on Irish history. It is recorded that a de Cromyll appeared in Limerick as early as 1307.
