Origin of the Name Hannon
The origin of the name Hannon was found in the allfamilycrests.com archives. Variants of Hannon include Hannan and Hanneen. Although there are many substantial families of Hannon in Munster and Connacht, the Annals and other sources of information regarding the septs of mediaeval Ireland seldom mention the name. According to the census of 1659 the name was then most numerous in the barony of Athlone, County Roscommon. The prefix O, dropped in the submergence of Gaelic Ireland , has not often been reclaimed. Hannon is the anglicized form of the Gaelic O'hAnnain. This name is today chiefly associated with County Limerick . Another Gaelic surname from which Hannon is derived is O'hAinchin. Patrick Hannan, 1842-1925, who was born in County Clare, discovered the Kalgoorlie goldfield in Western Australia, the richest square mile of gold in the world.
The Hannon coat of arms came into existence centuries ago.
